Our Goal
Our goal is for every person in the Sid Valley living with dementia to feel understood, supported and respected and experience as many joyful moments as they ever did.
Dementia Friendly Sidmouth is a community collective funded by the Sid Valley Memory Café and supported by Sidmouth Hospice at Home, Sid Valley Help and Sidmouth Town Council.
We are working towards recognition as a Dementia Friendly Community by the Alzheimer’s Society.
Our Leadership Team
David Hodge CBE, Chairman, Sid Valley Memory Café
“Having experienced the impact of dementia on a family member, I want to help make a difference for those suffering with dementia and their carers in the Sid Valley.
Dementia is one of those unforeseen medical conditions that we may face at some stage during our lifetime. That is why we set up Dementia Friendly Sidmouth with the objective of bringing awareness to the whole Sid Valley community.
We are also here to support local businesses and community groups who play a huge part in supporting people with dementia and their carers, who face a complete change in their lives.
Can you help us by becoming a volunteer in supporting our work?”
Alasdair Cameron, CEO, Sidmouth Hospice at Home
“Sidmouth Hospice at Home is responsible for providing specialist palliative care to the Sid Valley. The charity already provides a number of services to help patients and their families facing dementia, and is keen to see the best possible support rolled out across the wonderful community.
We want to ensure that patients and families, and the businesses and organisations who serve them, are best placed to provide all the support they can to help those affected by dementia to live their best possible quality of life.”
Di Fuller, Trustee, Sid Valley Help
“We provide a befriending service at home for people that are lonely and isolated. Many of our clients are living with the early stages of dementia and we aim to help them feel less isolated, and also their carer, if appropriate.
Sid Valley Help also provides signposting to health and care services in Sidmouth and facilitates regular networks for voluntary sector organisations.
We are glad to support Dementia Friendly Sidmouth as a member of the board and through the other services we offer.”
Anne Blackburn, Project Consultant
“I am delighted to be leading the transformation of Sidmouth into a more dementia friendly community. I enjoy making a real difference to the community that I grew up in and am so fond of.
There are some incredible people in Sidmouth delivering much needed support and services to people living with dementia and their families and carers. However, if we all view people living with dementia as valuable members of our community and play a small part in creating joyful moments for them when interacting with them and serving them in the town, we will achieve being a dementia friendly community.”
